61-year-old television host and comedian Ellen DeGeneres will be awarded the Carol Burnett Award during the 2020 Golden Globes to recognize her 25-year career on U.S. television.

The award was set up by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) to honor individuals for their “outstanding contributions on or off the screen.” Ellen will only be the second recipient of the award as renowned television actress Carol Burnett was the inaugural winner earlier this year.

“In addition to her television success, she’s an advocate and philanthropist, lending her voice to those who don’t have one, and spreading kindness and joy through the power of her platform,” says HFPA president Lorenzo Soria.

One of the most prominent gay celebrities, Ellen started out in stand-up comedy before moving to television—today she currently hosts her own daytime talk show The Ellen DeGeneres Show. She has already received two of the highest honors in the U.S.—the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.
