Receipt rugs and TEMPORARY clocks: IKEA debuts collaboration with Virgil Abloh

Fashion fans may know Virgil Abloh as the brainchild behind the Milan-based fashion label, Off-White and creative director Louis Vuitton’s men’s wear collection, but the artist also has a knack for designing home items.

Abloh has teamed up with Swedish retail giant IKEA for a 15-item collection called MARKERAD (read: marked), which, when translated, means “clear-cut, crisp, and pronounced.”

This collection features the use of quotation marks and postmodern hyper-awareness of language, a style Abloh has often used in his clothing brand.

“The ethos of the collection is to add an artful quality to anonymous objects,” the designer says via the IKEA website.

Abloh takes classic minimalist designs and puts his spin on the pieces. This is evident in the entire ensemble, which includes a TEMPORARY clock, a WET GRASS rug, a SCULPTURE tote bag, a receipt rug, among others.

To mark this collaboration’s launch, IKEA has also modified its logo for the first time in its long history—by putting quotation marks on the sign of their Wembley store in London.
