It has been 30 years since Car Accessories, Tires, and Service Center (CATS) opened along EDSA in 1989. Little did its founder Felix Ang know that, in two years, the company would be the authorized Mercedes Benz workshop in the country. Its exceptional service is trusted by luxury car owners, paving the way for its expansion as the distributors of over nine distinguished automotive brands: Mercedes Benz, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Harley Davidson, Mazda, Jaguar, and Land Rover. All these accomplishments were compiled on a video that was played on the large LED screen at CATS’ 30th anniversary gala, set at the ballroom of the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Uptown Bonifacio.

These collected milestones are achieved because of the CATS team led by its founder and group president of Auto Nation Group, Felix Ang. Hosted by David Celdran, the program started with welcome remarks from the chairman of Auto Nation Group Gregory Yu and a thanksgiving speech by COO Frankie Ang for the man-of-the-hour. A ceremonial champagne
toast started the evening’s festivities, with the open kitchen wall rising and the Grand Hyatt Manila Kitchen Musical dancers performing as a signal that the buffet was open.

The night was young, and the party was just starting. Guests such as senators Frank Drilon and Nancy Binay, Atong Ang, Fortune Ledesma, Rikki Dee, Mario and Mimi Que, Gretchen Barretto, and US Amb. Sung Kim were seen at the double celebration.

It wasn’t just the 30th anniversary of CATS, but also the 60th birthday celebration of its founder. The party’s hashtag #CatsFather is a play on words. Felix Ang is the man behind CATS, after all. Singer Emmanuelle Adda serenaded the crowd with five songs. Hosts for the second part of the show, Issa Litton and Mike Toledo, also introduced a very special performance by George Yang who sang an amazing Italian rendition of the theme song from Felix’s all-time favorite movie The Godfather, accompanied by a live keyboardist. A tribute video for the birthday celebrant, with interviews from his friends and family, was also shown on screen.

More surprises were lined up as Felix’s granddaughter Gia Ang sang “Somewhere over the Rainbow,” following a birthday song and Felix blowing the candles on his cake surrounded by his immediate family. Another set full of reminiscing and precious laughter followed from the celebrant’s friends and business partners George Barcelon, Ben Yam, and Amb. Sung Kim. Capping off the program was another surprise performance by none other than Felix’ love, Grace Ang, who danced to a Michael Jackson-inspired number.

Felix ended with a heartfelt speech to thank all of his friends who celebrated the night with them. Always the gracious host, the festivities continued on with performances from Gary Valenciano and Tony Boy Cojuangco’s band. It was truly as memorable as the theme from Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather.
