Another year has come and gone and, as per usual, it seems to have whizzed by quicker than the last. Age and children really make you sentient of the passage of time. This next year is distinctive because it heralds the dawn of a new decade. It is exciting, motivating, and full of promise. A fresh page in your next chapter.

But before shifting into this phase, I believe it is essential to reflect on the last 10 years and evaluate the lessons, mistakes, and experiences that have led you to where you are right now. Recognizing your growth and understanding how your progress came to be is critical to amplifying your personal development in the future. If you feel like you haven’t flourished as much as you should have, rumination is just as, if not, important.

A quick recap of the last 10 years: I’ve had four babies and moved nine times within three different countries.

I created my business and online platform Glam-O-Mamas, written a book, and produced/hosted a TV show. Seeing my list of accomplishments enumerated is quite gratifying as there has definitely been quite a lot of experience, failure, and success packed into those years.

For me, the last decade was transformative because 2010 was the year I became a mother. Prior to that, my focus had solely been on myself and my career. The juxtaposition was absolute, and I loved it. As soon as my eldest was born, I knew I loved everything about motherhood. The sleepless nights, the breastfeeding, the dirty diapers, the uncertainty, the breathtaking responsibility of taking care of another human being. Motherhood was also the conduit for my journey to health and wellness for myself and my whole family. My evolution commenced when I was newly pregnant in 2009. As soon as I found out that I was going to have a baby, I embarked on a quest to construct the best approach for my husband and me to raise our children. This included copious amounts of research and key changes to my lifestyle. It has been quite the expedition so far, laden with curve balls, and still ongoing. The learning curve is quite steep, particularly when you have so many kids.

Motherhood is such a passion of mine that all of my projects and business are centered around it. I don’t claim to be an expert or to know it all. I’m learning on the go each and every day. My children are my greatest teacher, and I am humbled daily by them. I apply the life lessons I ascertain from them in all facets of my life. I have my faults…my missteps, saying things I shouldn’t, doing things that aren’t the best example of a good mom. I admit it keeps me up at night. But I try to learn quick, try to breathe through the negative self-doubt, and just try my best every day. I get help when I need to from my husband, my helpers, my friends, and professionals. I am always looking to be better. A better mother, a better person.

Being a mom really defined me this decade. My life and projects, with hope, will continue to be devoted to motherhood with more expansions and emphasis on wellness. Looking to the future, and I’m optimistic and enthusiastic. I thank this past decade and motherhood for helping me grow into an improved version of me. Integrating the life lessons I’ve assimilated so far and being open to discovering and learning more to augment my growth and maturity, so that I can continue to be better—for myself and my family.
