ART IN AURA

ALT Philippines 2020 is a passion project of a collective of local galleries consisting of both experienced veterans and up-and-coming artists with the aim of experimenting new ways of presenting and experiencing art, with the purpose of meeting the evolving needs of the industry.

Artinformal, Blanc, Finale Art File, Galleria Duemila, MO_Space, The Drawing Room, Underground, Vinyl on Vinyl, West Gallery, and 1335 Mabini make up the ten galleries collaborating for ALT Philippines 2020, which will display the works of more than 150 artists at the SMX Convention Center at SM Aura Premier from Feb. 14 to 16.

Because the art landscape is constantly shifting, the exhibiting artists will showcase the very works that have shaped the conversation of art—all which have been rooted in exceptional research and unexplored directions. The collective of galleries have designed the art show’s venue to appear as a hive, allowing to highlight each gallery’s’ distinct contemporary vision.

Artinformal will have their artists’ works presented through a newspaper-format catalogue with interviews focusing on their selected theme “Materials of the Artist,” that is, the materials each artist use and how they affect their work. Blanc will focus on how artworks shift daily in “Fulfilled Space,” beginning a journey with small, deliberate movements towards a state of contentment. 10 artists come together for Galleria Duemila’s “Carpe Diem: Beyond Seizing the Day” to challenge and further practices that aren’t considered predictable to audiences.

Finale Art File’s exhibition will review the state of painting through the works of 11 local contemporary artists, particularly its vitality and diversity crossing styles and generations. MO_Space will feature works of leading innovative contemporary artists and dynamic conceptual artists to keep in line with its mission of being more artist-centered than market driven. The Drawing Room’s show aims to reflect the dynamics of the relationship between a gallery and an artist, and the latter’s defined sensibility because of how the former propels them to a critical program of exposure and support. Vinyl on Vinyl will display artists who explore unconventional art forms, particularly revolving around pop surrealism, after-modernism, post-Internet, kinetic art, and underground art.

Valeria Chua will be the sole artist featured by Underground, prompted by her works that explore how individuals retain relevant information as they move across different landscapes, while West Gallery will have the works of both veteran and promising artists that reflect the pulse of Philippine contemporary art. Finally 1335 Mabini, as a gallery solidly grounded in contemporary art ecology, will feature works that commit to practices exploring mobility, history, and critical engagement with the environment.

ALT Philippines 2020 will be held from Feb 14 to 16 at SMX Aura.
