ICYMI: Solenn Heussaff gives birth on New Year’s Day

By Jessica Pag-iwayan

What’s the better way to welcome the new year and the new decade than giving birth to your first child?

This is exactly what happened to the beautiful couple Solenn Heussaff and Nico Bolzico. On Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020 via Instagram, Solenn shared a photo of herself lying on a hospital bed with her husband Nico by her side. She also revealed the official name of #BabyBolz—Thylane Katana.

“Best way to welcome 2020. So in love with you Thylane Katana,” Solenn says.

Tough journey, but behind this significant moment in their lives, Solenn reveals on her recent vlog that they’ve been through tough times during her pregnancy.

On her fifth month, they found out that #BabyBolz was only in the 10th percentile. “Meaning, it was a small baby, which got us a bit worried…. That was the worst week and a half of my life,” she says. “I remember Nico and I were crying every day. We almost thought that we would have to give birth at five months.”

Her doctor then required her to have a 3000-calorie daily diet. According to the actress, this is far from her regular 1200-calorie intake. “[It’s] crazy…3000 would have to be like a bodybuilder,” she says. But this helped her baby to grow up to 30 percentile.

Aside from this, the new mom also says that she had complications such as placental calcification and antiphospholipid syndrome.

“I don’t know why there were so many complications. I couldn’t understand why this was happening to me,” she admits. During those challenging times, her husband stayed with her. Nico became her nurse who made sure she had her medications on time.

“[Nico made] sure he would go to the office every day just to inject me,” she shares. “This is also why I took a leave from work, because I decided to chill because I’m a girl who loves to be on-the-go, and I love to work.”

Before actually giving birth on New Year’s Day, Solenn even pulled off a scary, nerve-wracking prank on Nico last December 29 where she pretended that her water had already broke. Nico and Solenn spent New Year’s Eve at the St. Luke’s Medical Center, waiting for her to give birth. It was in 2016, Solenn and Nico tied the knot in France, and the couple announced their pregnancy last August 2019. Congratulations, Solenn and Nico!
