Listen up manga fans, One Piece is headed to Netflix!

Shueisha, the publishing company that distributes the Japanese pirate manga, has teamed up with Netflix and Tomorrow Studios to create an all new live action series beginning with a 10-episode season.

One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda made the announcement official after stating in 2017 that production was underway. “Preparations have been slowly progressing behind the scenes, and it seems I can make the big announcement: Netflix will be lending us their tremendous production support!” Oda says in a statement. “This is so encouraging! How far will the story progress over the 10 episodes of Season 1? Who will be cast?! Please be patient a little longer and stay tuned!!”

Oda’s manga series about Luffy and his quest to become King of the Pirates has been in production since 1997, selling over 460 million copies and is currently on its 95th volume.

Steven Maeda (Lost, The X-Files) will serve as showrunner and will be assisted in writing the show by Matt Owens (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Luke Cage). The two will also be executive producers along with Oda, Marty Adelstein, and Becky Clements.
