Cavite’s first and biggest artist-initiated arts festival, Paghilom, is back for February’s National Arts Month celebrations, gathering over 200 artists, students, teachers, and cultural workers from Cavite and nearby provinces.

Paghilom alludes to art and its production as transformative acts necessary to cure individuals, communities, and society of its maladies. This year’s festivities bear the theme 20/20 Linaw Tanaw, which means clear vision or foresight—20/20 vision also means being able to see what society needs in order to move forward from its current state and transcend past burdens.

Paghilom 2020 opened with a film screening on Feb. 6, and then with live-mural painting by various muralists from Antipolo, Cavite, Bicol, and Angono the next day. There were also art exhibits, murals, art installations, sports and games, interdisciplinary workshops, an on-the-spot-painting competition, art talks, film showing, improvization jamming, dance and theater performances, an art forum, and food and merchandize booth to be enjoyed. The highlight of the three-day arts camp and festival is the medical mission Sining Gamutan on Feb. 8 where everyone can avail of free medical check-ups and tests, before concluding with a concert led by Joey Ayala, The Wuds, Lolita Carbon, The Borrachos, and Todo Pasa. | @paghilomartsfest |
