La Serenata at Casa Buenas promises a Valentine’s Day to remember

Elegant ambiance, check. Exquisite food, check. Person or people close to your heart, check. Ready, set, and love everything about your meal at Casa Buenas. From Feb. 13 to 15, the restaurant will offer a three-day Valentine-themed dinner called La Serenata. This special menu will delight the senses with sweet music and a six-course Filipino-Spanish spread inspired by the traditional kundiman. It is distinguishable through its smooth, gentle, and flowing rhythm, a serene transition from one course to the next.

Filipino cuisine is heavily influenced by the Spanish. This heritage guided Chef Godfrey Laforteza in putting together Casa Buenas’s menu that reflects both traditional and modern takes on well-loved dishes. On offer are appetizers, soups, salads, pasta and noodles, sandwiches, pizza, grilled items of meat and seafood, paella, and charcuterie platters of cheese and cured meats.

The romance of this turn-of-the-century experience extends to the dining area. The 120-seater restaurant is inspired by the traditional bahay na bato—warm, welcoming, and reminiscent of less-hurried times. The timeless aesthetic mixes traditional handcrafted materials from all over the Philippines such as baked capiz shells, intricate wood marquetry and inlays, handcrafted latticework, and hand-carved hardwood floors. Casa Buenas is a tribute to all things Filipino, from a cuisine that pays tribute to the country’s history and rich resources, to a vernacular architecture reflecting the tropical climate and laid-back lifestyle.

For La Serenata, diners will start off with a mouth-watering amuse-bouche of Tuna Tartare Kilawin with coconut cream pinakurat, and Kumot (an appetizer of shrimp and rice noodles in a spicy peanut-lime sauce). This is followed by a hot appetizer of Gambas and Grilled Octopus. Preparing the palate for the feast to come is a flavorful bowl of Salmon Yazu Dashi soup, followed by the main course, Grilled Beef Tenderloin and Iberico Pork Jowl. Homemade pralines and the house signature special, the Emperador Strudel spiked with brandy cream will have diners remembering the meal with a sweet ending.

On regular days, guests can also indulge in some of the restaurant’s signature dishes like the premium Grilled Kurobuta Pork Chop, the Cebu lechon-inspired Sinulog Roasted Lechon Manok, and the juicy Grilled US Angus Rib-Eye Steak. For grazing and sharing, diners can choose a paella (Seafood Paella or the Paella Negra), tapas (Smoked Salmon Crostini, Chorizo and Pulpo Tostada or Shrimp Isaw), or charcuterie platters of cured meats and cheese.

Guests availing of Casa Buenas’s La Serenata Valentines Day offer can choose from a couple’s dinner date for ₱6,000, or enjoy a more intimate dinner at La Cupula, the restaurant’s exclusive dining area, for ₱10,000. La Cupula is also available for group dates at ₱15,000 for four persons, and ₱21,000 for a group of eight. At the Pamilya, diners can enjoy a communal dinner over a long dining table for ₱21,000 (six to eight persons) or ₱30,000 (for nine to 12 persons).
