L’Aperitivo Italiano won’t judge you because the Italians just want you to have a good time

By Jayvee Fernandez

With everything happening in the world today, L’Aperitivo Italiano is exactly the type of event we need.

It’s basically a networking event with no hidden agendas. Bad day? Have some wine. Good day? Celebrate with wine. Looking for a new circle of friends? Meet over 30 new people every month—locals and foreigners (Yes, mostly Italians!). Want to drink solo? No one is forcing you to network. Just enjoy the wine.

“We are trying to make people understand the beauty of being inside the wine culture,” says Sergio Boero, president of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines (ICCPI).

In Italian culture, a L’Aperitivo usually takes place before dinner. It’s an appetizer.

It’s your traditional pica-pica, but highlighting Italian wines that you may (or may not) have a hard time finding in Manila. It’s an event that happens every month, at a different restaurant, so there’s always variety. Again, there’s no program or structure. They just serve you the wines. They can tell you all about the wines—or not. Frankly, they don’t care, as long as you have a good time.

L'Aperitivo Romano

January 2020 kicked off L’Apertivo at Cicchetti, a gem of a place hidden inside one of the office buildings near Uptown BGC. The next event will be on Feb. 26 at Ponte Rialto restaurant, Venice Grand Canal Mall in Taguig, where wines from Casale del Giglio (a multi-awarded wine company from Rome, which was also part of the Netflix film, The Two Popes) will be featured.

So hey, if you’re still looking for true love even after Valentine’s, it won’t hurt to shell out a few bills for a classy event. At most, you might meet your soulmate and if not, you still get to try some amazing wines.
