Shop to your heart’s content in this poet’s holiday

Compiled by JOHN LEGASPI

A symbol of love, the heart shape is the prime insignia for Valentine’s Day. It is connected with Cupid’s tool of spreading love, his love arrow.

In the 12th century, people didn’t know that the purpose of the heart was to regulate the circulation of the blood. What they knew then was that the heart began to beat fast when a person was overcome by sudden emotions, making them think that the heart was a trove of deep feelings. Through the works of the poets, the connection between the heart and love became imprinted on people’s minds, hence the quote from poet Ted Kooser, “Valentine’s Day is the poet’s holiday.”

Though it’s been scientifically proven that emotions are induced by the brain, the romantic in us still believes that love lies in the heart.

Adorn yourself with Cupid’s heart this Valentine’s Day with dainty finds sure enough to tug at every fashionista’s heartstrings.
