Food delivery guys are heroes and you should be nice to them

By JOHN LEGASPI

Aside from the frontliners composed of healthcare personnels and police officers, food delivery guys are also putting their lives on the line during this pandemic.

As food and supplies at stores are becoming scarce and people are advised to stay at home, food delivery services are a ray of light and a source of joy, not to mention a lifeline.

Food delivery apps such as Grabfood and Foodpanda are practicing what is called contactless delivery, keeping physical contact between their delivery partners and customers to a minimum. They leave food packages at an area to be picked up by customers and, as much as possible, accept only online payments. They also practice good hygiene by constantly sanitizing their hands and food packages and containers.

The two brands have shared statements, to bear with them as delays in delivery are inevitable with only a few riders available.

“Riders, assemble! Maraming maraming salamat sa inyong serbisyo at dedikasyon sa panahong ito (Riders, assemble! Thank you so much for your service and dedication during this time),” Foodpanda wrote in a post. “Hindi lahat ng superhero lumilipad! Sa aming mga mata, isa kayo sa mga tunay na bayani ng bansang ito. Let’s ride it out together. Kaya natin ‘to! (Not all superheroes fly! In our eyes, you guys are one of the true heroes of this country. Let’s ride it out together. We can do this!)”

To honor these modern heroes, food establishments like Jollibee and McDonald’s shared the post. “Let’s show some love to the riders of McDelivery, foodpanda, Grab, Angkas, Jollibee, and all those who continue to deliver! Thank you and please stay safe!,” McDonald’s posted. While Jollibee said, “Tuloy-tuloy ang serbisyo para sa bawat Pilipino! Thank you to all our Jollibee, McDonald’s, foodpanda, Grab, Angkas, and all other riders for your continued hard work, sacrifice, and dedication especially during these challenging times. We’re all in this together!”
