‘Puhon!’ Ben&Ben Rolls Out FB Live Jam for COVID-19 Frontliners

“Music is powerful,” singer-songwriter Ray Charles once said. “As people listen to it, they can be affected. They respond.”

These words couldn’t be truer today.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, musicians from all over the world have been coming together to use their art as a powerful instrument to help those in need.

In the Philippines, talented singers and musicians have been doing the same, launching their respective platforms and using their influence to raise funds to benefit local frontliners and individuals affected by the pandemic.

Indie folk/pop band Ben&Ben is doing their part. Through social media, the group announced that they will be performing live online on March 27, 7 p.m. to raise funds for equipment and food supplies needed by frontliners who are risking their lives to save others.

“We have a goal of raising P5 million to buy PPEs (face masks, gloves, alcohol and more), and to buy food packages for our frontliners and other people affected by COVID-19 crisis,” the group says. “Bilang pasasalamat sa inyong lahat, tutugtugan namin kayo sa Friday. Puhon! (To show our gratitude, we will be serenading you on Friday).”

Just the first day of the announcement, the group already collected over P1 million.

Nakakaiyak. Our performance is set on Friday through FB Live but we we now have more than P1 million fundraised in LESS THAN A DAY,” Ben&Ben shares. “Thank you to all of you, to corporate donors for your generous hearts”

Puhon! A Ben&Ben FB Live Event for the COVID19 Efforts” is in partnership with other private organizations such as Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative and Team Energy Foundation. Puhon is a Cebuano term that means “with hope.”

“In the time of COVID-19, we can only hope that something good will come at the end. This hope burns stronger every time we feel that we are not alone, and when we hear and share inspiring stories that fuel our passion to support those in need,” according to Puhon’s website.
