Filipino beauty mavens show creativity and solidarity in the fight against coronavirus through video challenge

As the enhanced community quarantine continues, many are left anxious and a bit overwhelmed with anything Covid-19 related, be it news reporting on new confirmed cases, or discussions on depressive states during this time. Leave it to the beauty industry, makeup artists and hair stylists alike, to come up with something fun and uplifting while being isolated.

Spearheaded by top celebrity makeup artist Albert Kurniawan, the #PassTheBrushNotTheVirus video challenge by local artists came to be, with a single message of staying home and staying beautiful. All done in the spirit of exercising creativity and productivity while being at home, the video showcased makeup mavens transforming everyday appearances into glammed up looks, including ice queen, jungle goddess, and Hollywood princess, among others.

“My co-makeup artists decided to do the #PassTheBrush challenge. We had to do our own makeup! I have many clients, celebrities and brides, but I realize I dont know how to apply makeup on myself,” Albert said in an Instagram post. “For the sake of entertainment, I was able to do this on myself for the first time. Lets stay positive, guys! We can do this!”

The other artists in the video included Mac Igarta, Emman Concepcion, Jake Galvez, Lala Flores, Ting Duque, Jelly Eugenio, Mark Qua, Anthea Bueno, Emmanuelle Magpantay, and Owen Sarmiento.

In another video, the country’s foremost hairstylists doing commercial, bridal, and celebrity work came out with their version. By passing hair brushes, the stylists transformed looksfrom reggae teens and Kpop idols to drag queens and rock stars. The video featured Raymond Santiago, Jay Wee, Ethan David, Brent Sales, Jeffrey Aromin, Nante Alingasa, Buern Rodriguez, Mark Familiara, Aries Manal, Florenz Torrontegui, Paul Nebres, Julia Fresh, Anton Papa, Bianca Anne Vergara, Mon Gamado, Chris Rodil, RJ dela Cruz, Jay Aquino, and Jan Edrosolan.
