LOOK: Cainta, Rizal mayor auctions shoes to raise funds

Since the national government announced that 18 million indigent Filipino families would receive cash aid through the Social Amelioration Program (SAP), local government units have been airing their sentiments that this is not enough. Some have said that even families considered as middle-class should receive the same help, for they are also affected by this pandemic.

In Cainta, Rizal, to raise funds for the families who are not covered by SAP, Mayor Johnielle Keith Pasion Nieto has announced that he will be auctioning items from his shoe collection. According to Mayor Kit, in their town, only 37,000 families are covered by the said program, even though they have a population of 32,000.

Wala naman tayong perang tulad ng Pasig na kayang tustusan yung mga hindi na cover ng DSWD program (Unlike Pasig, we don’t have the money to cover those not part of the DSWD program),” he says. Naisip kong mag auction ng ilang gamit ko tapos yung proceeds bigay ko sa mga hindi na cover. Makatulong kahit paano (Then it hit me that I could auction some of my things and the proceeds would be given to those not covered. I hope this will help even a little).”

To kick off, Mayor Kit posted three Nike rubber shoes—Jordan 11 breads, Jordan 1 Travis Scott low, and Air Force 1. All of these shoes are in size 11.

He then added that every day he would auction three pairs until the end of the extended enhanced community quarantine or until he sold the last pair in his collection.

The good mayor will post photos on his Facebook account, interested bidders can leave a comment on the photo of the shoes they want to get. Mayor Kit will set the based price for each pair. “Indicate your bid on the comment section,” he says. “All comments not related to the bidding will be deleted so it would be easier for me to see the current bid price.”

As of April 11, the province of Rizal reported 174 Covid-19 positive cases with a death toll of 28.
