The Peninsula Manila paints the sky with a heart to show community love

Some people have been trying to get up every day to work in spite of the uncertainty over the real purpose they serve in a global breakdown, the health risk, wondering if they’ll ever see the light at the end of the tunnel. These people—essential workers, frontliners, call center employees, hotel staff—need more than ever the inspiration or drive to push through with what they’re doing. It doesn’t take grand gestures to show compassion for them, as long as they’re given the utmost support, respect, and compensation they deserve.

The Peninsula Manila serves as the perfect canvas in the heart of Makati Central Business District for the property developers’ initiative in sharing community love as it lights 24 windows on both sides of Ayala and Makati Towers, a total of 96 windows, to form a “heart façade,” which lights up from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. every day. The skeleton force of the hotel comprising four people from the engineering team and two from the housekeeping team are responsible for setting up the lights and rooms.

“’Peninsula Cares with a Heart’ is a simple gesture of solidarity to the community and our frontliners. Home is where the heart is, right? The Península is home to some 600 employees. After nearly 44 years, we’d like to think that we’ve also become part of the fabric of the community, that they’ve left a bit of their ‘hearts’ in the hotel. This is our way telling them that we don’t forget. We haven’t forgotten. The Peninsula Manila never forgets.’
