The month of May is a time when we give tribute to mothers around the world. Some of us are blessed to have our moms in our homes or within reach, while some are on the frontlines or abroad serving patients and families.
Apart from letting your mom know how much you love her, here’s a list of films you and your mom can bond over and enjoy.
Pro tip: Don’t forget your tissues.

#10 Because I Said So
The title itself is something we’ve all heard before from our moms when they try to “reason” out with us. This comedy follows Daphne (Diane Keaton) as she attempts to persuade her daughter, Milly (Mandy Moore) to marriage—ASAP!

#9 My Bestfriend’s Wedding
A ‘90s rom-com throwback that your mom will enjoy and can get you to sing Dionne Warwick’s “Say a Little Prayer” at lunch time.
Julianne (Julia Roberts) is maid of honor to her best friend, Michael’s (Dermot Mulroney) very young fiancé, Kim (Cameron Diaz). The news of Michael’s wedding causes a surge of emotions in Julianne as she tries to sabotage the relationship.

#8 Brave
Ever wonder where they got the term, “Mama Bear”? This is probably one of those myths. All jokes aside, Brave is a story about the rebellious princess, Merida, as she meddles with magic, which leads to a curse she has to undo.

#7 My Sister’s Keeper
This one’s a real tear jerker. From page to screen, My Sister’s Keeper adapted from a novel by Jodi Picoult is about Anna fighting for her right to no longer be a mere “life support” for her older sister, Kate, who has acute leukemia. Stellar performances from Cameron DiazAbigail Breslin, and Alec Baldwin.

#6 The Guilt Trip
Ever wonder what it would be like to have a one-on-one road trip with your mom as a grown adult? This one’s probably it.

#5 Room
Brie Larson nabs an Academy Award for her performance as a mother who was kidnapped and eventually gave birth to a son while in captivity. The story unfolds as she tells her son about the outside world leading to their eventual escape.

#4 Lady Bird
This coming-of-age drama-comedy is about Christine McPherson, a.k.a. “Lady Bird,” and her struggles of longing for adventure and self-discovery while her obsessive and overprotective mom tries to keep her on the ground.

#3 Freaky Friday
Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan star in the mother-daughter catastrophic body-swap, giving each other an idea about their separate worlds.

#2 Stepmom
Another Julia Roberts classic, this time with Susan Sarandon. Isabel (Julia Roberts) is Luke’s (Ed Harris) new fiancé. Jackie (Susan Sarandon), his ex-wife, and their kids aren’t very fond of Isabel and the idea of being “replaced.” The tides turn when Jackie is diagnosed with cancer.
This one has one of the most memorable wedding proposals and the best soundtrack use of Marvin Gaye and Tami Terrell’s “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.”

#1 Anak
This Filipino classic hits closer to home. The iconic scene between Vilma Santos and Claudine Barretto speaks volumes of a mother’s unconditional love.
