Home projects you can work on to keep you from going outside

Home projects you can Now that some malls have opened up, many Filipinos have seemingly escaped their isolation cages called home. After two months of little to no experience of the world outside, they are now—with hope and care—planning trips to the malls.

Mass gathering and the lack of physical distancing, however, make such trips challenging in our bid to keep the curve flattened. If someone is in neither urgent need of anything nor part of the workforce allowed to go back to work, it’s still best to stay indoors.

Trust us, there are things to do at home and that visit to the mall can wait until the situation improves through mass testing. The long wait to have that leaking faucet fixed or that burned-out light bulb replaced is now over, especially as Ace Hardware has introduced Call and Collect, a service through which you can call or text the branch nearest you to have what you need delivered right to your doorstep. Here are a some home projects that can curb the urge to go outside.

Fix a leaking tap

9

Living in a virus-ridden time has forced every person in the house to wash their hands as frequently as possible to avoid contracting coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19). If water pressure is noticeably lower, or the wall or floor suddenly have wet spots, it’s likely that the tap is leaking. Try to pinpoint where exactly in the house’s plumbing system the water is leaking, as well as how grave or minor the damage is, and start fixing it using wrenches, cordless drills, or tap spanners.

Repair broken electrical sockets

11

No phone or laptop charger can get devices to full battery without electrical sockets. These rarely break, but when they do, they need urgent repair. All that’s needed are screwdrivers, a replacement outlet, voltage tester, and heaps of caution as this is electricity we’re dealing with. If there are no suspected electrical socket breakage, check anyway. It can prevent any future danger at home.

Paint walls a new color

5

If you’ve been putting off that painting project at home, now is the time to do it. Prep cans of paint in the desired color, brushes, rollers, and trays to get the design project started. Let the whole family participate for some productive, quality time.

Replace lights at home

10

Being at home more often means more frequent use of spaces day and night, which almost always (or not) requires light. Recall the last time the bulbs were replaced and, if needed, install new lights. If not, putting up the lights often seen on Instagram can add something new to, say, a bedroom or bathroom.

Build a chair

8

This imposed quarantine has proven that extreme boredom can bring out the creatives in us. Some redecorate their rooms or build their at-home garden. If these have long been completed, though, another personal project to accomplish can be building a chair that’s both functional and one-of-a-kind. Gather spare pieces of wood, nails, a hammer, and a saw and begin that project.

For all your home project needs, ACE Hardware Store has put in place a call and collect service that allows customers to call or text participating stores, wait for order confirmation, and arrange preferred delivery service. Products are also available at www.acehardware.ph, ShopSM, Lazada, and Shopee.
