Interested in a Harvard education while stuck in quarantine and without the high, private Ivy League university tuition fee? Harvard University is now offering over 70 free online courses for anybody to take for free, with durations ranging from one week to 15. The whole catalogue can be seen at www.online-learning.harvard.edu.

There is a lot of courses to peruse, from neuroscience to programming to Shakespeare, and it can be pretty overwhelming to go through. Here are some of the courses that piqued our interest and that we are planning on signing up for:

Pyramids of Giza: Ancient Egyptian Art and Archeology

The course is available now and runs for a duration of eight weeks. The estimated time commitment is two to four hours per week. This course is straight out of our childhood dreams! These free online courses are an opportunity to learn about topics that might have seemed a bit too different from what our parents wanted us to take in high school or college, like ancient Egyptian studies.

PredictionX: Omens, Oracles, & Prophecies

The course is available now and runs for a duration of one week. The estimated time commitment is three to five hours in that week. From horoscopes to tarot cards, ancient Chinese bone burning to the Oracle of Delphi, this course is everything we didn’t know we needed to learn about.

The Health Effects of Climate Change

The course is available now and runs for a duration of seven weeks. The estimated time commitment is three to five hours per week. The climate crisis is the defining crisis of our generation, and so it is important to not only educate ourselves on the issues but also learn what we can do.

Rhetoric: The Art of Persuasive Writing and Public Speaking

The course opens on May 12 and will run for a duration of eight weeks. The estimated time commitment is two to three hours per week. It is one of the most practical courses on the list that anybody in any field could stand to gain some education in, whether they plan on giving a public speech for a school campaign or a client report, or are looking to write a persuasive cover letter for a job application.

Justice

The course opens on June 10 and will run for a duration of 12 weeks. The estimated time commitment is three to six hours per week. Described as one of the most popular courses taught at Harvard College, which is the undergraduate community of Harvard, the Justice course “is an introduction to moral and political philosophy, offering an opportunity to discuss contemporary dilemmas and controversies.” Anybody with a social media account can be a social justice warrior, so use that platform to engage in meaningful dialogue grounded in an understanding of fundamental concepts on justice.
