Early morning of Sept. 3, Warner Bros. confirmed that production for the upcoming film The Batman has yet again been stalled after one of the crew members tested positive for Covid-19.

A representative of the studio explained that “a member of The Batman production has tested positive for Covid-19, and is isolating in accordance with established protocols. Filming is temporarily paused.” The entertainment company, however, did not disclose further details to protect the privacy of their workers.

Just hours later, multiple reports reveal that the person in question is the show’s lead star, Robert Pattinson.

Forced to take a halt for more than five months due to the pandemic, the production of the latest iteration of the Caped Crusader only resumed three days ago.

Having only finished filming a quarter of the movie, its director Matt Reeves was able to give fans a teaser trailer at the DC FanDome (a virtual convention) on Aug. 22. The teaser, filled with clever Easter eggs, showed Paul Dano as The Riddler, ZoΓ« Kravitz as Selina Kyle or Catwoman, Paul Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, and Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot Penguin.

The new Dark Knight film takes place during Batman Year Two in the comic book, and will show Catwoman, The Riddler, and Penguin before they’re fully realized as iconic villains.

The theatrical release of The Batman is set for Oct. 1, 2021, but with the recent developments, who knows when or if the screening will be moved.
